MARTIN STEPHENSON

Many thanks to you all for supporting us and making it such a superb night. Both Martin and Chris were on top form and it was a real privilege to enjoy them at what must be the best live music venue for miles!

We really enjoy these nights and your continued support is genuinely appreciated as we present both new and established performers in the intimate atmosphere that the hall provides. Talking of intimate atmospheres, can we thank everyone for putting up with the cramped conditions.

Between now and Christmas we intend to put on at least one more night and will let you know details as soon as things are finalised.

ALAN TAYLOR at the Village Hall

Well known locally for his work with Poacher, The Bogtrotters and latterly Lynskey's Change, this is a rare chance to see Alan perform solo.

A talented multi-instrumentalist (guitar, fiddle, mandolin), Alan uses his superb voice to excellent effect on a variety of musical styles from folk to country via blues, Irish and roots.

This is sure to be a busy night, so again tickets at £6 (Door £8) are advisable as well as being cheaper! Again available from me or the Village Hall.

RAY STUBBS at the Village Hall

Ray Stubbs: the greatest one man-blues-band in the world. The heyday of the one-man band was 1890-1920, but a century on we still have this truly amazing musician who surrounds himself with a set of instruments which he employs so expertly it has to be seen to be believed. Ray’s hand-made setup
is comprised of: bass drum, side drum, snare drum, garabakas, washboard, cow-bell, hi-hat, sock cymbals, crash cymbals, bass pedals, kazoosaphone, jug, Mississippi whistle, harmonica, 6-string guitar (x2!) 12- string guitar and, of course vocals.

Tickets for Ray Stubbs & His Amazing One Man Band on March 14th are also currently on sale at an extremely reasonable £6 (£8 door).

GARY POTTER at the Village Hall

In what is something of a coup for us, we are extremely proud to present Gary Potter at Appleton Thorn Village Hall on Saturday 28th February at 8:30pm.

A genial, unassuming, easy-going Scouser with no big-time affectations, he quadruples in stature the moment he picks up his guitar and starts playing gypsy jazz. He can also play better than good Country and Western guitar, but it’s the music of Django Reindhardt that first inspired him and which he has mastered to an amazing degree.

A quick look round on youtube.com will confirm the above, but here's what two reasonably well-known musicians (!) said about him -

“Gary is a heck of a guitar player.” - Chet Atkins
“He’s brilliant.” -
George Harrison

Tickets are staggeringly good value at £6 (£8 door) and available from tomorrow night at the Village Hall or from Roger Kenyon on 07946 378599.

ANDY STEELE at the Village Hall

For those of you not familiar with Andy, he has an impeccable pedigree, coming to prominence as a member of Liverpool band China Crisis, later joining the legendary Coal Porters (led by Sid Griffin), and latterly as a member of Muddyhead, whose debut CD was championed by the likes of Mark Radcliffe and Bob Harris. The Uncut review says "....could easily fit into a folk or alt country/americana radio playlist. A perfect debut".

Since supporting the likes of Roxy Music and America, Andy has released a solo CD to enthusiastic reviews. Sound on Sound said, "...thoughtful and clever lyrics without being pretentious or insincere. Andy's mordant reflections on lost love are set to a pleasant folk-rock backing, most of which is
contributed by refreshingly real musicians playing refreshingly real instruments".

Tickets are only £5 (door £7) and are behind the bar at the Village Hall or available from Roger Kenyon on 07946 378599.
